Cards for gift

I have taken some of my designs and moved them on to card development. I have thought about layers, size and colour contrast. I especially love the black card with cut out detail of geometric shapes which reveals the hand rendered floral design.

Photoshop development / gift

After spending a week or so on producing more, new and exiting drawings for fashion it's finally time to get photoshop back out. I have been experimenting with scaled, colour and layout. Using bold, bright and vibrant colours to appeal to a young, trendy market. This design is made up of hand drawn images collaged and then filled with block colour. I am going to test out diffrent background colours as I feel there is a wide scope for colour within this design.

Course exhibition

In first year I produced a printed fabric length for interiors based on delicate and feminine objects/things. In the reception of Cleveland college of art and design, Hartlepool they have been holding small exhibitions to showcase some of the work produced by students on the courses available at the university. My fabric was picked out to be displayed at the main entrance. Although the fabric was designed for interior it was displayed as if it was to be a dress. Other students work was displayed with and around my design which I think worked well and really complimented the designs. This helped me see the possibilities of what my designs could be used for.

Hello gift

Today I say goodbye to fashion and hello to gift. I am carrying on with the same theme and concept for gift, still focusing on floral and architectural patterns. It's time to clear away vogue and go visiting paper chase, clintons and other gift shops for insporation and ideas. Motivation.

Final fashion digital prints

Above are two of my finals for fashion. They both consit of digital print backgrounds which I developed on Photoshop from my own photographs I took whilst in turkey. To add content and interest I have printed over the top using hand techniques such as metallic printing and discharge printing. I have also added clear foil using stencil printing to add shine to catch the light and eye.

Fashion print number 1

After many attempts at printing my final, I managed to get a perfect print. No smudges, no miss printed lines. It took me a while to print this as I was using four diffrent screens as I planned on doing diffrent colour ways initially. Instead Iv decided to dip dye the linen and hand paint the floral with dyes.

Screen printing

After producing some koda traces to print with I got into the print rooms and made a start on preparing some screens. After the long and tiring work of preparing and exposing all 4 of my screens I had time to produce a few samples to see how my images would turn out when pulled through a screen. For one of my images I used four screens so I could do four different colour ways leaving more room for development and which also means I can use more than one printing technique and material on the one image. The other sample is devore velvet, I love this fabric and think the procion black dye has came out lovely, showing a shine in the fabric giving it that luxurious, rich look.

Print workshop

This week I took part in a print workshop. I learnt some new printing techniques such as pearl, metallic, flock and Devore. The photos above are pages from my sketchbook showing my samples produced and designers/fashion that have use the same techniques.

Design development

I have been working on some more floral designs drawing from my own photographs. These are a couple of my sketchbook pages were I have been expermimenting and gathering ideas for possible layouts to use within my final collection. I have also been adding colour and layering up different images to create exciting and complex design ideas.

Floral collage from primary research

This is a collage of floral which I drawn out using permanent marker. I worked from my own primary photographs taken at Preston park museum. I love the black and white and the different mark making achieved with just a marker. This is possibly one of my final designs for my collection as I think it is a strong and effective design.

Some more photoshop

This is another photoshop experiment I have produced in one of the workshops. Using layers, filters, and colour adjustments.

Didim temple, turkey

Today Iv been working from my own photographs I taken on holiday in turkey during summer break. I have worked on different papers using pencil. Pencil worked well when shading and adding shadows to the Collums that were shown in the photos.

Initial drawing / fashion

Here's a few of my sketchbook pages showing initial drawing stages from my fashio project. Observing floral I was using diffrent techniques and media to create textural and interesting line drawings.

Cut out A2 drawing

You can add texture and shape to a drawing by cutting out, layering and stitching into your paper. I have produced a A2 drawing sheet aiming to have shape and movement to the flora I had been observing. For the background I have layered up a range of different papers that have different weights and textures. Using a fine liner I done a quick, loose observational drawing on top. Using a craft knife I have cut round certain parts and lines of my floral drawing which has enabled me to peel and lift areas of the image. I think this looks really effective and gives a 3D look to the drawing.

Photoshop

During a photoshop workshop today I produce some prints using a range of drawings I had produced over the past few weeks. I have explored layers, opacity and filter to create an exciting range of digital prints. These are two I produced today.

A2 collage drawing sheet

Today Iv been working on a A2 drawing sheet which I started yesturday. I have done an observational drawing of floral using water colours, ink and coloured pencil to add detail. I like how water colour looks on the collages brown paper background. I have also incorporated tracing paper and acetate by pritining some of my earlier timed drawings onto them. There is added detail on the page using hand stitch. I have tried to use as many different materials as possible to make it interesting and textural.

mood board/concept

I thought I would do a quick post of my mood board I produced last week. This gives an over feel / concept to my project. I am especially focusing on ancient architecture, using my photos taken at the apollon temple, turkey as my main inspiration. My mood board also includes some market research of dolce and gabbanas summer 2014 collections. I love the collection and It relates so well to my chosen concept. I want to keep my colour pallet neutral but warm, using soft purples and light stone colours representing the temples collumns.

Dolce and Gabbana Summer 2014

Dolce and Gabbana / Summer 2014

Absolutely love this collection!! Came across these amazing catwalk photos whilst browsing www.vogue.co.uk

Preston Park Museum

Today I took a trip to Preston park. I took a look around the museum there for some inspiration. I found some beautiful objects and got some lovely photos. In the grounds of the park I came across some great florals that will be great to draw and develop for prints.

Also in the grounds of Preston Park is butterfly world which you pay a small fee on entry. It is well worth paying to get in as you see some amazing butterflies and tropical flowers. The butterflies were beautiful and I even managed to collect some sadly passed ones to do observational drawings from.

Summer Break

It still hasn't sunk in that I'm in my second year of uni! First year went so fast! I was a pretty bad blogger over the holidays as I was too busy working and exploring amazing places. During the summer break I spent an amazing two weeks in turkey. Whilst there I visited the beautiful apollon temple, didim. I got some amazing photos that have inspired me a lot, which I'm currently using in my next collection. These are a few of the photos I collected showing the interesting patterns and towering collumns.

New home

Just moved into my new desk for the year. Displaying some inspiration and market research.

Black bird

I done an observational drawing tonight of a black bird. I used a photograph to draw from taken by Ryan Kibry Photography. It's the first time Iv attempted drawings feathers and think it doesn't look to shabby in pencil.

Hart to Haswell Walkway

Took my hyper beagle for a walk this leonine down Hart to Haswell. I got some pretty good photos photos of textured bark and trees which I find beautiful.

The swing of things

It's been agesssss since I done a bit of drawing. So since te start of term is slowly creeping up on me I decided to try and get back into the swing of drawing. I ventured into my back garden and found the only floral there was. (Not very exciting) None of the less I produced this mixed media A2 sheet. I think I done pretty well considering I hadn't touched a pencil in a month or so (naughty me). I used flat colour, colouring pencils, fine liner and watercolour on brown paper.
